Use of a journal.
I've used journals since 3rd grade. I like them, but if you look at over 3/4 of what I used to write about as a pre-teen it was about what people thought of me, what girl I liked and stuff like that. Once a teen it was how quickly I could loose the "weight". You could tell how well I was doing by how long the journal lasted. A few weeks of one or two meals daily, yada yada yada.
This last 2 1/2 years I started doing it better, safer and slower. In small controlled steps I've improved my health and built upon my knowledge and skills. Up to 6 months ago I thought cereal was as ok food choice and pretzles where ok to eat daily. A year before that diet pop was cool and a year before that Ben and Jerry where a staple of my life. (If you don't know who or what Ben and Jerry is, I WON'T TEMPT YOU.)
Ben and Jerry stopped sending me "We miss you" letters after several months. I was chowing down on 2-4 of them monthly. I was also very good at conserving energy by not walking, running, lifting weights or biking. Now I am very energy wasteful. I used to joke " in the event of the zombie invasion, I 'll outlast most of my friends." Now my joke is " As long as i'm faster then some of my friends, I'll survive."
Journal writing is done to record thoughts, emotions and events. I record every workout so I can track my progress in weight living. My weight is kept on a calender along with my fat% and water %. My "little black book", as a happily married guy, is my journal. I don't journal my eating most days because I'm a pretty stable eater. I pack the same work meals daily. I drive a big rig locally all over Ohio and P.A and am home every morning. I work nights and average 10-12 hour days.
My normal day's plan and meals include:
1:30pm. wake up. Drink creatine and 1/2 cup full of protein powder.
2pm workout. Weight lift 4x weekly. Upper body, lower body and then rest, then repeat.
2:45 prep for work.
3:45-4am work. Eating 2 apples, 1 bannana , 2 protein bars, 6 celery sticks and a dozen baby carrots. 2 26 oz waters. (tap water)
4:30 small protein meal of either egg whites with onions and mushrooms or a grilled lean meat.
6am: sleep, after visiting with wife for 5-15 minutes (depending on how many times she hits snooze.)
Working an average of 50-60 hours per week kinda sucks, but it's what I do. Once we save up for our new home we'll be able to let me cut back to a more normal work week.
Well, like I've said, I write Like I talk and I don't prep or refine, it's just me. take what you like and leave the rest behind. Thanks for reading and helping me to stay accountable.
